"Summer breeze makes me feel fine"...well, maybe those lyrics don't apply to our lovely RGV heat, but there are plenty of other ways to cool off, enjoy some lighter fare and relax with good company. Sushi and Sake, anyone?

Last week's early start of events and responsibilities found us short on time, low on fuel and big on hunger!

Gaby (via proxy): Dinner?

Trisha: Sure. Anything to minimize this Monday madness.

Gaby (via proxy): West or North?

Trisha: North, please. It's been "a day".

We quickly decided on a long overdue destination to dine at and hurriedly walked in to start ordering up some thirst-quenching, cold beverages and hunger-subduing starters. In true form, we did not hold back on ordering a variety of appetizers: Spicy Kani-Cado (Half Avocado, Spicy Kanikama, Spicy Mayo & Minced Cilantro); a Sunomono Kanikama Crab Salad (Cucumber in a Sweet Vinaigrette Dressing topped with Sesame Seeds and Avocado); and Fried Calamari (Thin cut & lightly breaded Calamari. We had our choice of dipping sauces between Sweet Chili, Spicy Mayo or the signature Lucky Sauce.

As you may have guessed, that wasn’t it for our table of six. We also decided to start off with and order of Stuffed Jalapenos (In: Tampico Paste & Cream Cheese or Shrimp & Cream Cheese. Out: Tempura Fried, Spicy Mayo & Eel Sauce). Talk about “luck of the draw” with these spicy culprits. Three out of six of us were on FIRE!

When trying to figure out how to minimize the amount of entrees we wanted to order, we opted to explore our creative side and created our own meal: STEP 1-Choose your style: Rolls, Bowls or Sushi-Burritos; STEP 2-Choose 1 protein cooked, raw or Tempura; STEP 3-Choose up to 3 Mix-ins; STEP 4-Choose your flavor; STEP 5-Choose up to 2 toppings. We opted for at least one of our own rolls and chose white rice with spicy crab, cream cheese, cucumber and avocado with Lemon Soy and topped it off with Tempura flakes and some cilantro. Delicious!

If you’re brain is just too fried to make your own choice, Lucky Sushi has a great selection of sushi rolls and tempura bowls filled with fish, shrimp or chicken.
