SAN JUAN/McALLEN - Presented by Junior’s Supermarket, ‘The Real Meat People’ comes a winter wonderland full of snow and activities otherwise known as ‘Frio’.

The city of McAllen will be hosting the fun-filled Winterfest for 40 days starting Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the McAllen Convention Center.

Different activities are set to take place inside and outside with much to see like a lantern fest, Santa’s Castle, illuminated structures and so much more. The best part of it all, is that 2-million pounds of REAL snow will be brought for all to enjoy.

“A lot of our kids haven’t been able to leave south Texas and see snow,” said Veronica Whitacre, McAllen Mayor Pro Tem.

Inside activities taking place will vary in price depending on the family package purchased. Outside activities will be free for all.

“In the city of McAllen, we are always looking to see how we can continue to improve the quality of life for our people here in the Rio Grande Valley and south Texas; not only for our residents in McAllen but for all in the community,” said Joe Vera, McAllen assistant city manager.

‘Frio’ will open Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. after the Lighting of the 64 ft. Christmas tree ceremony.
