We might have said goodbye to the Houston Texans this past Sunday, but we said hello to the recently reopened Monster Carwash in Edinburg. Known for its live music, crazy drink specials and as the “other bar in Edinburg” Monster Carwash has splashed its way back into the scene after closing its doors for a stint and now re-emerging under new ownership and management.
We found ourselves in front of Monster Carwash this past Sunday afternoon when our original plans had to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.
Gaby: Change of plans. This place is packed and they’re not opening up the terrace.
Trisha: Boo! Where to next?
Gaby: Checking across the street and will let you know.
8 minutes later
Gaby: Monster Carwash it is!
For as much as we Texans love to be outdoors, there aren’t too many venues that provide us with this experience. Yes, we understand that the heat is sometimes unbearable and it might be humid 90% of the time, so let us rephrase our previous statement-there aren’t many venues that are correctly equipped to provide us with a comfortable outdoor experience. Nailed it! Monster has large TV screens to enable any sports fan to enjoy every second of the game, circulating fans of all shapes and sizes to keep everyone cool and, most importantly, a considerably large, tall (remember warm air rises) pavilion to protect us from the blistering Texas sun.
We made our way in, chose our tables, and had the waitress take our drink orders as we nervously awaited the game kick-off. As the pre-game chit chat happened in the background, Monster’s new owner came up to welcome us and explain why we weren’t seeing too many folks that Sunday afternoon. Monster Carwash just opened its doors to the public about a month ago, and the owner felt it was necessary to work out all the kinks before announcing to the public that Monster Carwash was alive and well. This made perfect sense to us, especially because the owner has a proven track record in the bar industry.
Monster Carwash has your typical bar food with a gourmet twist, such as some brunch menu items like Monster Migas or Chilaquiles, Malibu Rum French Toast or a NY Style Smoke Salmon Bagel. We opted for lunch menu appetizers and shared Nachos with added chicken, Philly Cheese Steak fries and a mini Tower of Buffalo Chicken Sliders. We probably could have kept ordering for our party of seven, but we were so stressed over the game, that we (this had NEVER before happened) lost our appetites midway through our foodie adventure. *dramatic sigh*
We look forward to seeing this Edinburg bar and grill flourish in 2020. Hopefully, we can add it as a go-to hang out spot whenever we visit our friends from “the North”. Lol Monster Carwash is located at 2702 West University Drive, Edinburg, TX. Their hours of operation are Monday through Sunday 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Keep a close eye out on their social media handles @monstercarwashbargrill to find out about pop up brunches, drink specials and live music.
