McALLEN - City of McAllen property owners who have not paid their 2019 City of McAllen property taxes are reminded that the deadline for paying is Friday, January 31, 2020. Paying after that date will result in penalty and interest charges added to the original amount due. A penalty of six percent and one percent interest will be added to the balance on the date the taxes become delinquent.

With the deadline approaching next week, taxpayers are encouraged to avoid waiting in line and take advantage of the drop box located inside the McAllen Development Center, located at 311 N. 15th Street, with office hours Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The office does not close for lunch.

McAllen property owners can also pay after regular business hours, by utilizing the Tax Drop Box, located on the south side of the McAllen Development Center, facing Cedar Avenue. Payments dropped off after business hours and the next day before 7:30 a.m. are processed with the previous day’s date. Please place all payments in a sealed envelope and do not place any cash or any other payments due to the City of McAllen in the Tax Office Drop Box.

Property taxes can be paid in the following manner of payment:

City of McAllen Tax Department, 311 N. 15th Street, in person, via check, cash, money order or debit or credit card (payments made via credit card or electronic check are subject to an additional fee);

U.S. Postal Service via mail to City of McAllen Tax Department, P.O. Box 220, McAllen TX 78505-0220. Payments made with U.S. Postal Service postmark on or before January 31, 2020, are considered timely.

Just a friendly reminder, the City of McAllen Tax Office does not accept payments payable to Hidalgo County Tax Office.

The City of McAllen Tax Office just sent out a red and white Courtesy Reminder for every account that was not paid as of January 17, 2020.

The bulk of property taxes collected goes for police and fire protection services and equipment for the community.
