ROCKPORT, Texas -- At the County & District Clerk Association of Texas -Region VIII Conference last week, Laura Hinojosa, Hidalgo County District Clerk, was nominated by her colleagues for the Clerk of the Year Award. Two outstanding clerks, a county clerk and a district clerk, are honored annually for their outstanding contributions and notable service to the assoication.

"I am honored and humbled to have been nominated by my peers for this award particularly since there are so many clerks in our association who invest so much time, work and effort in advocating for our offices and constituents," said Hinojosa. "Nonetheless, I am greatful for the recognition and, win or lose, will continue working hard to support my office, my colleagues and the association at large."

All eight regions in the State of Texas are responsible for nominating their two county and district clerk representatives. The Clerk of the Year Awards are presented to the two nominees receiving the largest number of votes cast for each respective office during the annual state conference held in June this year.

"We are extremely proud of Laura for her dedication to our region and for her collaborative efforts statewide," said R. David Guerreo, Jim Wells County District Clerk and Region VIII Director. "She is definitely an assest to our organization and we look forward to having her as our collegue for many years to come."

The purpose of the Association is to promote professional standards, to provide a means for the education of its members regarding the statutory and constitutional duties of the offices of the county clerk and the district clerk, and to participate in the legislative, judicial and executive processes of state government beneficial in the performance of the members' duties.
