EDINBURG – County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon on Monday presented recommended changes in County election precinct boundaries due to redistricting.
The redistricting increases the number of voting precincts to 251 from 144 (with four retired). The new voting precincts will allow for more distinct boundaries, and are due to the population growth based on the 2010 Census as well as changes in County Commissioner precincts.
Commissioners' Court approved the redistricting of the County election precinct boundaries. Ramon also discussed the recent updates on state and federal redistricting, which will likely warrant an additional election in May, placing an unanticipated financial burden on counties.
Ramon praised the efforts of her staff and recognized them in Court, thanking them for their work in the election process.
