With the hunting season in full swing, hunters can now enter the Racks-n-tusks contest that was created to raise money for scholarships.

Racks-n-tusks is a non-profit organization designed to help promote hunting's impact on the local economy in a positive manner.

Founder Gabe Lozano III is more thrilled than he was last year which was the inaugural season for the contest.

"I'm excited we have a lot more people calling right now," Lozano said. "People didn't know what was going on."

For Lozano creating a scholarship like Racks-n-tusks is just a way for him to give back to a hunting community that he has not only been a part of the majority of his life but also to help students get the extra money they need for college.

"I love helping kids get into (hunting)," he said. "The scholarships are great but I think it's secondary because I believe hunting has a place in our community because we're known through out the United States for the big bucks."

The contest will run from first day of archery season until the end of hunting deer rifle season. All entries must be turned in by midnight next day. Also during season all entries must be submitted within seven days or they will no longer qualify.

The scholarship contest is available for contestants, and college students sophomore and up. If not a contestant must be referred by a contestant who is entered in the Racks-N-Tusks of Texas contest and submit a scholarship application.

The prices are as folows: $25 Rifle Deer Division, $25 Rifle Hog Division or $40 for both. It costs $25 Bow Deer Division and $25 Bow Hog Division or $40 for both. The Cross-Bow division is $25. For all four Rifle and Bow divisions the fee is $75 and $95 including Cross-Bow.
