Edinburg officials celebrated the opening of the new Pin Oak Avenue on Friday morning. The half-mile stretch, which runs along the west side of Wal-Mart on University Drive and ends at Sprague Street, is a two-lane street with sidewalks on both sides. Economic leaders say they wrapped a positive week at Edinburg Day in Austin where it was announced the city would be awarded $1.6 million for improvements to its airport, confirmed that TXDOT will prioritize U.S. Highway 281 to Interstate standards for future economic growth, and announced that retail sales spiked more than 21 percent in December over the same time in 2007.
