EDINBURG – Edinburg residents will see a 5 percent increase in their water and sewer bills starting this month.
The Edinburg City Council adopted the new rates at their meeting last week in order to pay for $17.1 million in revenue bonds which were issued last year to pay for Phase II of the Waste Water Treatment Plant Expansion.
For single family residences, the minimum water bill will now be $10.78 per month and the minimum monthly charge for sewer service will be $8.05. Water usage of over 3,000 gallons per month will be billed at $2.49 for each additional 1,000 gallons and sewer will be $1.53 for each additional 1,000 gallons.
Rates for commercial and multi-family meters will now be $13.41 for up to 3,000 gallons and $2.49 for each additional 1,000 gallons.
The new rates went into effect on Oct. 1.
