Asencion Balderas entered eternal rest on Christmas Day, 2008 at 7:45 p.m. at the Edinburg Nursing and Rehab Center in Edinburg at the age of 88 years.
He was born on May 13, 1920, in Mission to Geronimo and Teresita Balderas. He was a long time resident of Edinburg.
He was lovingly known as “Chon” to many who served in the United States Army. He worked for the County of Hidalgo Health Dept. for many years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memory: his wife of 65 years, Irene Balderas of Edinburg, his children, Roy Balderas (Mary Lu) of Edinburg, Sylvia Sanchez of Edinburg, Ernesto Balderas (Susan) of Katy, Texas, and Eduardo Balderas (Rosie) of Needville, Texas.
Also, a brother who is 101 years old, Mr. Arturo Balderas of Mission, and a sister who is 94 years old, Paulita Perez of Edinburg; 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and numerous of nieces and nephews survive him.
Visitation will continue on Sunday Dec. 28 at Gonzalez Family Funeral Home Chapel of Peace from 5 to 9 p.m. with the holy rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.
The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday Dec. 29, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow to Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors are under the auspices of Daniel Sanchez, David Sanchez and Dereck Sanchez, Roy Balderas Jr. Michael Balderas and Eddie Balderas Jr.
