Arturo Francisco Cardenas, born Sept. 17, 1935, at the San Francisco Ranch north of Edinburg, entered eternal rest on May 24, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Agueada Cardenas.
He is survived by his wife, Jovita Cardenas, four sons, Gilbert Miguel, Ricardo, and Rolando; a daughter, Ana; and his grandson, Esteban, whom he raised since he was a baby. He is also survived by his two brothers, Juventino Cardenas and Raul Cardenas, and a sister, Teresa Arevalo. Also left to cherish his memory are his 10 grandchildren.
Cardenas graduated from Edinburg High School where he was a proud member of the Bobcat football team of 1953. He was retired from International Paper Company where he was a mechanic for 32 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, May 26, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Faysville. Pallbearers were his sons and grandsons Esteban Cardenas and Lukas Cardenas. An honorary pallbearer was his grandson Brandon Davila. The family would like to thank the staff of Solara Hospital and Edinburg Hospital ICU for the compassionate care they gave him.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Skinner-Silva Funeral Home of Edinburg.
