Mr. Gutierrez was born in Rio Grande City to the late Augustin Gutierrez and Concepcion Gonzalez. He devoted 31 years of service with honorable commitment to the United States Department of Defense and was a Staff Sergeant of the United States Army. He had earned numerous commendations throughout his service and toured most of the United States and numerous countries. SSG Gutierrez also served an active duty tour during the Persian Gulf War.
He was a loving husband to his spouse, Araceli R. Gutierrez and a devoted father to his two daughters, Nancy Lynette and Emily Anne Gutierrez. He is also survived by two brothers, Felipe Gutierrez of Rio Grande City and Jorge Gutierrez of McAllen; a great aunt, Sara Gonzalez of Rio Grande City; and his father-in-law, Roberto Ramirez of Escobares.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary March
15, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton, in Edinburg. Funeral service was held Monday, March 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment followed at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military Honors were conducted by the US Army Reserve, Brownsville.
