Maria Angelica Cantu, 67, just shy of her 68th birthday, passed away on Dec. 15, 2009, at McAllen Medical Center. She was laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg on Dec. 18, 2009. Family and friends from Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, and Texas attended the visitation, church, and funeral services.
Mrs. Cantu was born on Jan. 1, 1942 to Manuel and Herminia Montalvo in Pesqueria, N.L., MX. She is the sixth of twelve siblings. In 1958 she married David Cantu in Reynosa, MX, and the couple moved to Edinburg in the early 1970s. She worked as a field laborer for many years, and then left that work to raise her family.
Mrs. Cantu is survived by her husband David and six children, who all reside in Edinburg, and fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, who reside in Georgia, Michigan, and Texas. She is remembered by the Cantu family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved to get everyone together and did not allow fighting between brothers and sisters. Her siblings will remember her just the way she was: a good sister, a good person, and a very happy person.
Funeral services were held at the Gonzalez Funeral Home in Edinburg.
