EDINBURG – Silverio L. Salas, 85, died Sunday, November 18, 2018, at McAllen Heart Hospital.
Silverio served in the United States Army for eight years and earned the National Defense Service Medal. He was born and raised in Laguna Seca, Texas. Before leaving to serve in the military he met and married the love of his life of 62 years. Upon returning from duty he worked at International Paper Company in Edinburg for 30 years. After retirement, he dedicated his time to building the 3 Silvers Ranch for his family, where they still reside.
He was an amazing grandpa and great-grandpa who built a legacy with his own two hands. He lived for Sunday football, family get-togethers, his Walmart buddies, and his animals. He will be greatly missed by his family and his wife, who never left his side.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Justo and Silveria Salas; and five siblings.
Mr. Salas is survived by his wife, Angelita R. Salas; three children, Sylvia Salas, Velma (Carlos) Barreiro, Silverio Salas Jr., all of Edinburg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Esperanza Diaz of Bakersfield, CA, Justo (Victoria) Salas Jr., Emma Salas, Bertha (Moises) Tamez, Jose (Aurora) Salas, all of Edinburg.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary today, November 19, 2018, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military honors will be conducted by Catholic War Veterans Post 1065 of Mission. Serving as pallbearers are Silver Ray Salas, Henry Gonzalez III, Cuba Ismael Euresti, Bernardo Salas, Alan Riveron, and David Mathew Morin.
Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg.
