CHICAGO – The University of Texas-Pan American men's basketball team will begin their 2011-12 regular season schedule on the road against DePaul University Friday night at the McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The Broncs are coming off of their 96-52 exhibition win over Universida Autonoma de Nuevo Leon on November 5th. UTPA shot 52% from the floor against the Tigeres. In the first half, the Broncs jumped out to the 51-18 lead and then continued their play in the second half and pushed their biggest lead of the night to 94-45 on a couple of free throws by Ruben Cabrera.
Cabrera had a team-high 24 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Newcomers Jesus Delgado and Earl Jefferson each added 10 points each. Brandon Provost chipped in eight points and four assists.
DePaul is also coming off of a victory in their lone exhibition game where they defeated Lewis University 70-63. Cleveland Melvin scored 33 points in the exhibition for the Blue Demons. DePaul led 30-29 at halftime before outscoring Lewis 40-34 in the second half for the 70-63 victory.
After facing DePaul, the Broncs will travel to Evanston, IL to face Northwestern University on Sunday at the Welsh-Ryan Arena for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off
The game against the Blue Demons is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. (central time).
