McALLEN – The difference was night and day when it came to Rowe against Economedes during week zero action in McAllen.
It was air versus ground, but less in the way of defense, as a dynamic passing attack by the Warriors overcame the smashmouth style of football that will comprise the Jaguars this season. Rowe bested Economedes in non-league play, 62-35.
Unable to find an answer on defense to the consistent passing attack manned by the tandem of Rowe quarterback Javi Obregon, who went 21-28 for 316 yards and four touchdowns, and receiver Robert Valencia who caught seven balls for 189 yards, and three touchdowns, the Jaguars found tempered success on the ground.
Jags Running back Nathan Monterrosa put up 196 yards on 21 carries, and four touchdowns, each from the 2 yard line. The Jags put up 344 total yards on offense, all on the ground, as the passing game faltered. Economedes quarterback Danny Saavedra was 0-4 with one interception, despite running for one touchdown. Saavedra also ran for 69 yards on 13 carries.
Rowe mounted 498 yards in total offense, 353 through the air and 145 yards on the ground, against the Jags.
Week 1 football finds Rowe playing at home against PSJA North. Economedes will take on McAllen Memorial at Cats Stadium.
